Apple Pie Refrigerator Oats

oatsI’m very easily bored with my breakfast options. More than any other meal, it’s the one that I switch up the most. One week it’s cereal, and the next maybe smoothies. I’m always looking for something new and exciting to have for breakfast. Afterall it is the most important meal of the day!

After the success of the Salad in a Jar, I found a Pinterest Pin about Refrigerator Oats, made in a mason jar. Score! You can prepare these ahead of time, leave them in the fridge for up to two days, and have a healthy breakfast that is easy to grab and go.

Here is how I made my Apple Pie Refrigerator Oats. In a half pin mason jar combine the following:

1/2 cup of dried oats (do not use instant, just regular oats for baking etc)

1/2 cup of milk (I used Almond Milk)

1-2 Teaspoons of Chia Seeds

1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon

1/2 of a Teaspoon of Nutmeg

1 Tablespoon of Agave (I used Vanilla flavored Agave, so I was able to skip adding Vanilla Extract)

Optional add ins: Vanilla Extract, Greek Yogurt

Place the lid on and shake to stir everything together. Then I added slices of fresh apple. Let it sit in the fridge overnight, and the chia seeds and oats will absorb the liquids and soften. It’s ready to eat in the morning. You can top off with trail mix, nuts, seeds, dried fruits or whatever you like. I added walnuts to mine! Enjoy.
