You are hear about the breath a lot in classes like Yoga and Pilates. But why is the breath so important? Besides being the first and last thing we do in life, breath can do so much for your body and mind. It is vital to our bodies. The breath can relieve stress, nourish the body and mind, purifies the blood, eases muscle tension, and calms the mind.

Try a breathing mediation for five minutes to reset yourself and revitalize your body and mind. Sit in a comfortable position, and lengthen out the spine sitting up nice and tall. Take a deep breath in through the nose, bringing the breath all the way down into the belly, up through the ribs, and up into the throat. Then open the mouth and sigh all the air out. Now sit up nice and tall, and take a few more breaths just like this. Don’t focus on anything but the breath. Expanding the ribs out on the inhalation, and contracting the muscles in on the exhalation.

Sometimes during our day and in stressful situations we forget to breathe, instead just taking shallow breaths. Sit like this for only a few minutes a day and you will feel energized and refreshed.
